Senior Partner and Chairperson

Canaan is a lawyer and corporate leader. He is a former President of the Law Society of Zimbabwe, a former Councillor of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association and a former External Examiner for Procedural Law at the Law Faculty of the University of Zimbabwe. Canaan was previously Council Chairman of the Midlands State University. Currently, he is the Chairman of Delta Corporation Ltd and a director of several companies listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange. Canaan holds an LLB (Hons) (Unilag); LLB (UZ); and MBA (MSU) degrees. Canaan is in the final stages of completing his PhD studies under the supervision of Professor Amon Chizema of Loughborough University, Epinal Way, Leicestershire, UK. The title to his doctoral thesis is "Corporate Governance Effectiveness in Zimbabwe, a Pie in the Sky".

He is a renowned commercial lawyer with considerable experience on corporate leadership mandates as well as all forms of national and cross border investment work and is registered and practising as such in both Zimbabwe and Botswana. He is also a World Bank Consultant on Organisational Design & Restructuring. On 28 October 2013, Canaan was appointed as country representative of Zimbabwe in the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) Panel of Conciliators, 1818 H Street, NW, MSN J2-200, Washington DC 20433, USA.

He lectures Business Leadership at Midlands State University's MBA Graduate School of Business Leadership. Canaan has considerable experience in corporate governance and boasts of fine report writing skills, having authored a World Bank funded report on the Zambezi River Authority entitled "What the Zambezi River Authority needs to realize its full potential - the Harmonisation Agenda" (December 2013). More importantly he has written a book entitled "Corporate Governance Non- Executive Director's Independence - Fact or Fiction" (2008) and the National Code on Corporate Governance in Zimbabwe (2014).

He won the Institute of Directors Zimbabwe 2008 Director of the Year Award in Parastatals, NGO and Public Sector Enterprises category.

Canaan has great leadership skills having founded the Quality Corporate Governance Centre (Pvt) Ltd t/a Zimbabwe Leadership Forum (ZIMLEF), which was the first of its kind in Zimbabwe. He currently serves as the Chairman of ZIMLEF. He regularly facilitates and chairs numerous workshops on corporate governance issues both in Zimbabwe and in the Southern Africa Region focusing inter alia on corporate governance principles, roles and responsibilities of directors and ethical leadership. He has, to date, been involved -in corporate governance training to institutions such as Parliament of Zimbabwe, African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), ZESA, Old Mutual, Regional Investment Agency (REA), COMESA, Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICAZ) and various other organizations.

Canaan provides clients with expertise in both transactions and litigation, gained from over thirty years of legal practice. He frequently advises on foreign investments and compliance matters.
