OBERT KONDONGWE
PARTNER: EMPLOYMENT, LITIGATION AND ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION GROUP
Obert Kondongwe is a Partner in DMH, with 11 years of legal experience. He advises public and private sector clients on employment law, labour relations, dispute resolution, corporate advisory, and regulatory compliance. His practice covers employment restructuring, retrenchments, disciplinary processes, employment policies, executive employment, and labour litigation.
Having commenced his career with the Firm in its Litigation Department, Obert has developed extensive experience in contentious and non-contentious employment matters. He regularly represents clients before the Labour Court, High Court, Magistrates' Court, labour officers and administrative tribunals, including in arbitration and conciliation proceedings. His work includes trial preparation, drafting pleadings and legal opinions, reviewing employment contracts and workplace policies, conducting legal research, and advising on labour disputes and regulatory requirements.
Obert has advised public and private sector organisations on large-scale retrenchments and restructuring exercises, including advising on the applicable legal framework, regulatory processes, employment contracts and separation packages. He has also contributed to the drafting and review of employment codes of conduct for major corporate and institutional clients.
In addition to employment and labour law, Obert has developed experience in constitutional, administrative, and environmental law matters. He has appeared before the Supreme Court, Constitutional Court, and Administrative Courts of Zimbabwe and continues to provide strategic, commercially focused legal solutions to clients across a range of sectors.
TENDERO MAKANGA-MATENDEPARTNER: COMMERCIAL & FINANCIAL SERVICES & TAX GROUP
Tendero Makanga-Matende is a Partner in the firm's Commercial & Financial Services and Tax Group. She has 10 years of legal experience. She holds a first class LLB (Hons) degree from the University of Zimbabwe and was admitted as a legal practitioner, notary public and conveyancer in November 2016.
Tendero primarily focuses on the Firm's tax practice and has comprehensive knowledge of local and international tax laws. She provides strategic tax advisory services to corporate and commercial clients, advising on tax planning, corporate tax implications, the interpretation and application of tax legislation and the impact of changes in tax laws and regulations. She also represents clients in matters involving assessments by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA), including tax dispute resolution, litigation, and engagement with ZIMRA through mediation.
In addition to her tax practice, Tendero advises on commercial transactions, conducting legal due diligence and identifying legal and regulatory risks to ensure that transactions are structured to protect clients' commercial interests. She also has experience in civil and commercial litigation before the superior courts of Zimbabwe.
Tendero has advised on significant tax matters for major corporate groups, including issues relating to the payment of tax in foreign currency, value added tax and income tax computations. She also has experience in investment law, regulatory compliance, insolvency, and restructuring, and has advised on mergers and acquisitions and other complex commercial mandates.
ROMEO CHATEREZA
PARTNER : CIVIL & COMMERCIAL LITIGATION
Romeo Chatereza is a Partner in DMH's Civil & Commercial Litigation Group, with eight years of legal experience. He advises local and international clients on complex commercial disputes and regulatory matters, with experience spanning litigation, arbitration, competition law and corporate advisory.
Romeo has successfully represented clients before the High Court, Supreme Court, and Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe in complex constitutional and commercial disputes, including contractual claims, corporate disputes, and high-value litigation. He also undertakes legal due diligence, advises on commercial transactions, and provides strategic legal opinions aimed at managing legal and regulatory risks.
Prior to joining private practice, Romeo worked as a Junior Analyst at the Competition and Tariff Commission, where he gained valuable experience in competition regulation, merger control and the assessment of competition-related matters. This experience provides a strong foundation for his current competition law practice, in which he advises on merger control, restrictive business practices, competition compliance and related regulatory requirements. He has represented clients in significant competition-related litigation involving Zimbabwe's competition regulator, including proceedings before the Constitutional Court, and advises on competition law aspects of corporate transactions.
Romeo also has extensive experience in commercial arbitration and alternative dispute resolution, including advising on arbitration proceedings and enforcement matters. His experience spans a range of sectors, including petroleum, banking, insurance, mining, retail, food processing and other commercial industries.
